FAQs

General Questions

What is pole dance / pole fitness?

Pole dance, or pole fitness, is a dynamic fusion of strength, flexibility, and dance that transforms movement and workouts into a thrilling experience! It’s an empowering way to build core strength, improve coordination, and boost confidence, all while having fun and expressing yourself through powerful, artistic movement.

Do I need any dance or fitness experience to start?

Not at all! Our classes are designed for all ages, skill sets, body types, and fitness levels, from absolute beginners to advanced students.

What should I wear to class?

Wear comfortable athletic clothing like shorts, a tank top or sports bra, leggings, and sweatpants. Since skin contact with the pole improves grip, it’s helpful to wear layers you can adjust to expose your arms and legs as needed. Avoid using lotions or oils on your skin before class. Check the class description for specific details on the level and areas of skin exposure required.

Do I need my own home pole to learn pole dancing?

No, a home pole is not necessary to advance on the pole. However, if you’d like to practice at home, we can recommend high-quality poles for purchase. Reach out to us at Info@RevolVT.com or message us through Instagram or Facebook.

What kind of poles does your studio have?

Our studio has a total of 6 poles that are affixed to the ceiling and floor. During classes, 5 of the poles are shared among 10 students (2 per pole), and one pole is for the teacher to teach from. The poles are chrome coated, 45mm in diameter, 13.5 feet tall, and made by XPole. They are each designed to hold up to 600 pounds / 275 kilograms.

Classes, Passes, & Scheduling

I’m new. What class(es) should I sign up for?

When you are new to pole, start with taking a minimum of 3 Introduction to Pole before progressing into higher level classes. We offer a variety of other Introduction Level classes that you are also welcome to attend as a new student, including Big Body Pole Party, POC Pole Space, Fly Over 40, and Introduction to Pole – Men’s Edition. All new students are also welcome to attend our non-pole classes, including Handstand Workshop, Chair Dance, Lap Dance, Strip!

What if I’m running late?

Parking, weather, unexpected interruptions – we understand that the ability to show up 15 minutes early isn’t always possible. We accept late entrance up to 10 minutes after the start of class, but no later than that. Otherwise your class attendance is forfeit.

What types of classes do you offer? What styles are taught?

We offer beginner, intermediate, and advanced pole dancing classes, as well as specialty classes like pole choreography, heels, flexibility training, and strength conditioning. We also offer specialty pole classes such as Parents Pole (bring your baby!), POC Pole Space, Big Body Pole Party (for those of us gifted with big bodies), and Fly Over 40 (for our over 40 year old students). And don’t forget our non-pole classes and workshops such as Handstand Workshop, Chair Flow, Lap Dance 101, Sultry Slink, Seductive Strip, and Grip Workshop! Check out our Classes page for more information.

Do I need to sign up in advance? Are drop-in’s allowed?

We recommend booking ahead of time on Punchpass to secure a spot in class. Drop in appearances are not guaranteed a spot in the class. And you must have an active account in Revolvt.Punchpass.com in order to attend a class.

How do I sign up for a class?

Start by visiting RevolVT.Punchpass.com.

Next, choose Create Account to set up your personal account.

Once your account is set up, choose Purchase a Pass to purchase a 1-class, 3-class, or 10-pass class (please note expiration dates on each pass).

Once you’ve purchased your class pass, visit the Schedule or Calendar tabs to find the class(es) you want to sign up for. If a class is full, add yourself to the Waitlist so that you are notified via email when and if a spot in that class becomes available.

It is possible to sign up for as many future classes as you have active Class Passes in your account. For example, if you purchase a 3-class pass, you’re able to sign up for 3 classes in the future. If you’d like to hold a spot in more classes, additional passes must be purchased.

Can I take a trial class before committing?

No, our studio does not offer trial or free classes at this time.

What is a pole class like?

Most of our classes follow the same flow: they start with a 12-15 minute warmup followed by a structured, step by step instruction of intro level dance moves that will then be put together to create a short choreography. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions throughout the class and seek assistance from the instructor one-on-one for support mastering certain moves. The class will end with a 10 minute cool down.

Some specialty classes and workshops may not include choreography, and instead will start with warm ups, end with warm downs, and focus throughout the class on strength, flexibility, or focused movement skills such as handstands, grips, and fish flops.

How do I properly prepare for a class?

Simply showing up with appropriate attire, your yoga mat, bottle of water, and any specialty items (class specific items such as grip aid and knee pads) is all you need! If you’re asking a deeper question about body care and preparation, drink plenty of water and eat food that is healthy for your body in advance of class so that you are hydrated and have enough energy/calories to support your efforts.

Should I bring anything?

Students are encouraged to bring their own mat, water, and grip aid (if applicable). If you don’t own your own mat, no worries – we have mats to rent during the class for $3!

How long is my pass good for?

One Time Thing (1-class pass) – This pass expires upon completing your first class, canceling with 12 hours or less notice, or no-showing to the class.

Good Things Come in 3s (3-class pass) – This pass expires 6 weeks after the date of the first utilized class. For example, if you purchase this pass, but don’t attend the first class on the pass until 2 weeks after, the pass will expire 8 weeks from purchase / 6 weeks after the first class.

Baby You’re a 10 (10-class pass) – This pass expires 3 months after the date of the first utilized class. For example, if you purchase this pass, but don’t attend the first class on the pass until 2 weeks after, the pass will expire 3 months and 2 weeks from purchase / 3 months after the first class.

What if I don’t use my punches on my pass before it expires?

Any unused classes that remain on your 3 or 10-class pass when the expiration date arrives are forfeit.

Do you offer private lessons?

Yes, private lessons are available for individuals or small groups who want personalized instruction! Visit our Private Lessons page for more information.

We require at least 12-hour notice to cancel or reschedule a class without a fee. If you need to cancel a class, do so no later than 12 hours prior to the start time of the class for both group lessons and private lessons. If you cancel within the 12 – hour window, you will lose the class credit. Safety & Health

Is pole dancing safe?

Yes, when students are attentive to what their body is telling them, and the material taught properly, pole dancing is a safe and effective workout. Our instructors emphasize proper technique and injury prevention.

What if I don’t have upper body strength? What if I’m not strong enough?

Good news – strength is something you build over time! There are zero strength requirements for Intro to Pole and our other beginner classes. Our classes are designed to help you build strength gradually. You’ll gain muscle and endurance over time.

Can I take pole classes if I have an injury or mobility conditions?

It depends on the injury. We recommend consulting with your doctor before joining, and letting your instructor know about any limitations.

Are there age or weight restrictions?

We welcome students 16 years or older and all body types. Pole dancing is for all bodies! For students 16 and 17 years of age, completion of the Minor Consent Form is required by a parent or guardian.

What about the bruising?

Due to its very nature, pole dancing is a form of exercise that relies on pressure and grip, which is why pole dancing requires so much skin and such little clothing! Therefore, bruising (we affectionately refer to them as “pole kisses”) is very common especially for beginners. Over time, the body bruises much less as it becomes used to pressure in certain areas. Gentle stretching is part of the cool down after classes and helps ease bruising as will arnica cream/gel and epson salt baths. Consult with your doctor for more information.

Studio Policies & Membership

Do you offer memberships or class packages?

We offer drop-in rates and class packages, but we do not offer memberships at this time.

Can I bring a friend to class?

Absolutely! We encourage bringing a friend! Drop in attendance is welcome when a spot is available in class, so encourage your friend to create an account, purchase a pass, and sign up for the class prior to attending to guarantee them a spot in class.

Do you host private parties or events?

Yes! We offer private parties for birthdays, bachelorette/bachelor parties, and special occasions. See our Parties page for more information.

Other Topics

When can I wear heels in class?

You should always check with the instructor first to see if the class allows for heels, especially if it’s not a heels-specific class. You can contact your instructor through Instagram (listed here on the Our Team page) or by emailing us at Info@RevolVT.com. If you’re not used to wearing heels, we offer an Introduction to Heels class designed to help you get comfortable. However, if you’re experienced in heels or specifically looking to train in them, many students come back to Introduction to Pole classes to practice with their heels as well. Just keep in mind that if the class isn’t geared towards heels, you’ll need to proceed with caution. Also, be aware that moving in platform heels is awesome, and also can lead to injury. Take your time, ask questions, and give yourself time to build balance, strength, and confidence!

What size heels are recommended for beginners?

For beginners, 7” platform heels are highly recommended. We recommend Pleasers and Hella Heels. Platform pole dance shows are easily accessible and can be priced from $40 to $400. The 7” platform gives you more surface area to train on the toe box, which is a key part of dancing in heels. While 6” heels might feel more like regular shoes and seem easier for general walking, they don’t offer the same platform for practicing toe box work. Some experienced dancers prefer 8” heels for their style, but if you’re just starting out, the 7” is a great choice to ease into it.

Can I take photos or videos during class?

Yes! And we provide cell phone holders in the studio to make it easier. However, for privacy reasons, you must get verbal consent from anyone in the background before taking photos or videos, whether or not you plan to share them online. If you have any questions, feel free to ask your instructor.

What are Grip Aids?

Grip aids are used to provide friction and grip on the pole, helping us to perform moves safely and efficiently. They are particularly helpful when our hands become sweaty, or if the pole is too slippery from the natural oils in our skin. Here’s how they are commonly used:

    1. Reduce sweat: Some dancers have sweaty hands, which makes gripping the pole difficult. Grip aids can help absorb sweat and provide a more secure hold.
    2. Enhance grip strength: Certain moves require a strong grip, and grip aids can provide extra tackiness, making it easier to maintain a hold.
    3. Improve confidence: With a more secure grip, dancers can focus on learning and perfecting new tricks without worrying about slipping.
    4. Provide skin protection: Some grip aids create a protective layer, reducing friction burns or blisters, especially for beginners.

Common types of grip aids include:

  • Liquid chalk: Dries on the hands, providing a dry, non-slip surface.
  • Rosin-based products: Often used for a tackier grip.
  • Grip gloves: For dancers who want to avoid direct hand contact with the pole.
  • Tacky lotions: Applied to the skin to increase friction.

Each grip aid has different properties, so dancers choose based on their personal needs, pole conditions, and the environment (i.e. humid Vermont summers, versus dry and cold Vermont winters).

Do you sell grip aids or other accessories?

Yes, we sell a variety of grip aids at the studio. That is currently the only thing we sell at Revolve Vermont. We accept Cash, Venmo, and PayPal payment. Grips range in cost from $12 to $20.
